For the TOEFL Junior test, the final score ranges from 200 to 900, with each section scored between 200 to 300
For the regular TOEFL test, the overall score ranges from 0 to 120, with each section scored between 0 to 30
The reason for the different starting scores for the Regular TOEFL and TOEFL Junior methods is primarily due to the difference in their intended test-takers and difficulty levels
TOEFL Junior (Score range: 200-900): The test is designed for younger students, typically aged 11-15, and has a lower difficulty level. The higher starting score of 200 helps reflect the lower difficulty level and provides a more accurate assessment of a younger student's language proficiency
Regular TOEFL (Score range: 0-120): This test is geared towards older students and adults with a higher difficulty level. The starting score of 0 is indicative of the more rigorous nature of the test and allows for more precise assessment at various proficiency levels
The different score ranges also ensure that test scores align with the unique goals and requirements of different age groups and proficiency levels.
